Walk The Line to SCI Recovery Awarded Oakland County’s 2012 Casual Day Donation
December 20th, 2012
Southfield, Michigan (December 20, 2012) – Walk The Line to SCI Recovery, a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center in Southfield which promotes and achieves recovery from spinal cord and traumatic brain injury, was one of 18 Oakland County organizations to share $35,500 in Casual Day donations from county employees.
Walk The Line to SCI Recovery was founded by Erica Coulston, 34, who suffered a spinal cord injury (SCI) 11 years ago, during a car accident. Coulston was determined to open a facility that would meet her expectations for a recovery therapy program in metro Detroit. Paralyzed from the chest down, Coulston has been able to regain some degree of function in most affected areas of her body.
The center, which carries out intensive, ground-breaking rehabilitation with spinal cord and traumatic brain injured clients, has clients from all over the United States, and also from overseas including Brazil, Mexico, Switzerland, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates.
“Walk The Line to SCI Recovery is grateful and honored to be a recipient of the Casual Friday Fund. Oakland County employees have continued to be generous and committed to improving the lives of those in need,” said Coulston. “The road to recovery from a spinal cord or traumatic brain injury is long. The Casual Friday Fund donation will be used to help our under or uninsured clients continue their recovery therapy.”
At a ceremony in the lobby the Executive Office Building in Waterford, Michigan, on Tuesday December 18, 2012, the funds were distributed by Oakland County Executive L.Brooks Patterson. “The generosity of our country employees is exceeded only by their professionalism and commitment to serve the residents of Oakland County,” Patterson said. “Casual Day is one of many ways our employees give back throughout the year.” Pictured below are L. Other recipients of the award included the American Diabetes Association in Bingham Farms, the Baldwin Center in Pontiac and Kids Kicking Cancer in Detroit.
