WALK THE LINE TO SPINAL CORD INJURY RECOVERY is a Physician directed intensive, activity-based therapy program with a focus on weight and load bearing exercises designed to facilitate recovery of function following traumatic spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury.

At WTL we emphasize assisted gait training with natural loading on the spine, hips, knees, ankles and feet to promote walking, neuromuscular facilitation and sensorimotor biofeedback, muscle tone normalization, dynamic coordination activities, repetition and variation of tasks to drive CNS reorganization/learning. It also stimulates propriospinal pathways through weight bearing, joint loading and vertical vibration during functional exercise which research has shown is essential to promote muscle activation of involved body segments and help to restore functional mobility.

Our protocol:

  • Focuses on assisted gait training with natural loading on the spine, hips, knees, ankles and feet to promote walking, neuromuscular facilitation and sensorimotor biofeedback, muscle tone normalization, dynamic coordination activities, repetition and variation of tasks to drive central nervous system reorganization/learning
  • Stimulates propriospinal pathways through weight bearing, joint loading and vertical vibration during functional exercise
  • Restores functional mobility in a biomechanically sound manner

Walk The Line To SCI Recovery utilizes a wide variety of standard and customized equipment:

Rifton Pacer Gait Trainer, Giger MD, both BlueRockers and ToeOff AFOs, Total Gym, EasyStand standing frames and gliders, BionessĀ  Ness L300 Plus, Wave Pro vibration plate with specially modified standing component designed for SCI, Pneu-Walker Harness system, and LeMond RevMaster spin bikes. We have also been involved with designing a new style of custom orthotic that can be broken down from a KAFO which can be used for standing to an AFO which is helpful when gait training.
